Book Jason Puterbaugh
Jason is a Golf Digest Best Young Teacher in America and is consistently ranked among the top coaches in California. Growing up in San Diego, Jason was introduced to the game by his father, Kip Puterbaugh, whose passion for golf and expertise in the swing laid the foundation for Jason’s early development. As a standout junior golfer, Jason excelled in the ranks, ultimately earning a scholarship to play Division I golf at San Diego State University, where he competed for four years and graduated in 2007 with a degree in Business Management.
Jason has worked closely with renowned sports psychologist Jay Brunza, who mentored Tiger Woods during his youth. Jason integrates mental coaching alongside technical instruction to optimize his students’ performance on and off the course.
After college, Jason helped run a junior golf program in Spain before returning to the U.S. to teach at the Aviara Golf Academy, where he has taught for over 16 years. During his tenure, he has worked with golfers of all skill levels— from beginners to elite competitors. He has earned a strong reputation for developing top junior players, many of whom have gone on to play Division I golf at prestigious universities, while others have advanced to professional tours. Notably, Jason coached Alana Uriell from the age of 13 through her career on the LPGA Tour.
Jason is widely recognized for his expertise in both full swing and short game instruction. He is a master in the use of the Quintic Putting System and putting lab, tools he uses to help players refine their putting skills. His approach to teaching is grounded in a comprehensive understanding of golf mechanics, combined with a strong emphasis on the mental side of the game, which helps students achieve peak performance.
At the Aviara Golf Academy, Jason created and leads daily junior clinics and summer golf camps that have become immensely popular. His ability to blend technical precision with mental game strategies has made him a sought-after instructor, preparing his students for success both in competition and in life.
