THE LATEST ON OUR PGA/LPGA AND TOUR PLAYERS...
Nick Jones has really had a good year, winning about
$85,000 on the various mini-tours and playing in his first
US Open. Nick just made it through the "First Stage" of Tour
School, finishing in a tie for 6th at the Norman course at
PGA West. His overall consistency has improved in all areas
of his game and know that he has the skills necessary to make
it through the next two difficult stages to get onto the PGA
Tour.
JUNIORS MAKING THE CUT...
According to the Golfweek/Titleist Performance Index the
Number 1 and 2 top Junior Girls entering their sophomore year
of High School, (14 year olds), are Rachael Morris and Danielle
Fraser, both long-term students of Ted Norby and Kip Puterbaugh.
Danielle Frasier - the 15 year old has had a very
productive and active schedule for the past month. It started
with the Junior World Championships and it was an exciting
tournament in that Danielle caught the lead of one stroke
with four holes to play and her opponent proceeded to birdie
15,16, and 17, and take away the tournament as Danielle finished
second. Next up was the Canon Cup, which is a group of juniors
from the west coast vs. juniors from the east, with a Ryder
Cup like format. She was part of the West holding the title.
Next came the Emerson Classic, an AJGA event. She was trailing
going into the final round and shot a 68 with a very good
31 on the back nine to take the title by two shots. She is
now ranked 10th in the country for the junior girls.
Glory Yang - 15 - Fidelity Investments Junior (Glory
Yang 4 top five finishes)
Katie Sylvan - 15 - Buick Junior Open
Jennifer Johnson -15 - Nationwide Insurance Junior
Matt Pierce has finished his freshman year at Duke
and managed to have a pretty respectable year on one of the
top teams in the country. He played in all events and was
very consistent in his individual performances, finishing
between 15th and 40th in all of the tournaments. He knows
what to do to improve and we will be spending the summer working
on those things.
Jennifer Johnson - Jennifer had two top five finishes
in the US and really played great in the AJGA team event in
England this summer.
Rachel Morris has been working with Ted Norby for
the past 3 years and as a 14 year old is really at the top
of the juniors. She just won two tournaments in a row on the
AJGA circuit playing against girls 18 years old and younger.
In the Wellstone Communities event in Texas she won by 4 strokes.
Michael Kim works with Bob Knee and just won the LA
City Amateur in the 13-14 age group. He shot rounds of 75,69
and 71 and made a 4 foot putt for birdie on the last hole
to get into a playoff and then made a 25 foot for birdie on
the first playoff hole to win the event.
Sarah Salvo, 11, has won two AJGA Nike division tournaments.
Anton Arboleda - won the LA City Junior Championship
as a 14 year old and finish 6th in the Junior World Championship
in the 13-14 age bracket.
Courtney Hooton – finished in 4th place in the
US Kids World Golf tournament in the 11 year division.
Congrats to Blake Trimble on his scholarship to UNLV.
Blake has played some great tournaments this summer and had
the lead with 4 holes to go in the Southern California Amateur,
but faltered a little down the stretch and finished in 3rd.
Ani Guilugan won the California Junior Girls State
Amateur Championship.
Lastly, I have to boast a little as my boy Jamie
just shot a 64 in the San Diego City Amateur Championship
and has a 4 shot lead with the next 36 holes played next week-end.
